Contractors: Consumers Can Collect Up To $7,500 From A Contractor’s Bond
Code of Civil Procedure Section 11.6221
Building contractors in California are required to post a bond with the Registrar of the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Consumers who win their case in Small Claims Court (SCC) can file a claim against the bond for payment.
Current law only allows an individual to collect up to $4,000 from the bond. This new law allows an individual consumer to collect up to $7,500 from the bond. A business, not an individual consumer, is still limited to collecting only up to $4,000.
